A 30,000-layer farm equipped with state-of-the-art battery cages, is in the heart of West Africa, Mali. It stands a remarkable testament to modern poultry farming practices.
Project Background and Implementation
The farm is owned by a farmer with 10 years of experience in poultry farming. He originally owned 10,000 laying hens. After three years of breeding, he decided to expand to 30,000 laying hens. So I contacted our company - LIVI Machinery and decided to use the battery cages for layers.
After communicating with the customer, we re-planned the plan for the customer. This farm with 30,000 laying hens chose A-type battery cages for layers, which can maximize the use of space without affecting the comfort of the chickens. Each cage is equipped with automatic feeders, nipple drinkers and fecal removal systems, all connected to a central control panel for effective monitoring and management. The entire setup is designed to minimize labor input, reduce disease risk, and improve the overall health and egg production of the flock.
Key Benefits and Achievements
1. Increased Production Efficiency: The battery cage system has enabled the farm to achieve an impressive laying rate of over 90%, significantly higher than the national average. The controlled environment, consistent access to feed and water, and reduced stress due to minimized aggressive interactions among birds have all contributed to this enhanced productivity.
2. Improved Egg Quality: The automated feeding and watering systems, along with regular monitoring of environmental conditions, have resulted in uniform egg sizes, consistent shell quality, and minimal breakage. These high-quality eggs have gained popularity among consumers and wholesalers alike, fetching premium prices in the market.
3. Optimized Resource Utilization: The compact design of the battery cage system has allowed the farm to accommodate 30,000 layers within a relatively small footprint, reducing land usage and associated costs. Additionally, the efficient manure removal system facilitates nutrient recycling, promoting sustainable agriculture in the surrounding area.
Client Farm Feedback
Mr. Amadou Diallo, the proprietor of the 30,000-layer farm, expresses his overwhelming satisfaction with the battery cages:
"The decision to invest in a battery cage system for our layer farm has proven to be a game-changer. We've witnessed remarkable improvements in production efficiency, egg quality, and animal welfare. The automated features have not only streamlined our operations but also allowed us to allocate resources more effectively, focusing on strategic aspects of the business. I wholeheartedly endorse this technology for any farmer seeking to elevate their poultry enterprise to new heights."
Things to Note When Using Battery Cages:
When using a battery cage system, farmers should have staff continuously monitor and maintain the system to prevent equipment failure and ensure optimal performance.
